How Steam and Vacuum Treatment Works

1. HEPA vacuuming. We start with a commercial vacuum fitted with a HEPA filter to pull live bed bugs, eggs, shed skins and debris out of mattress seams and tufts, bed frames, furniture joints, carpet edges and baseboards. The vacuum bag is sealed and removed from your home, so nothing escapes back into the room.

2. High-temperature steam. Next, a professional dry-vapour steamer is passed slowly over the same areas. Bed bugs and their eggs cannot survive the heat delivered at the surface, so the steam kills them on contact, including in fabric folds and crevices that a vacuum cannot fully reach.

3. Inspection and next steps. We check the treated areas, explain what we found and let you know whether follow-up visits or a residual treatment are recommended.

How to Prepare for Your Steam and Vacuum Treatment

Good preparation makes the treatment faster and more effective. Before our technician arrives:

Bedding & clothing: strip beds, bag linens in the affected room and run dryer-safe items on a high-heat cycle for at least 30 minutes. Store clean items in new sealed bags or lidded bins.
Access: clear floors, the space under beds and around sofas and baseboards. Keep bagged belongings in the same room and do not move them to another unit.
Protect delicate items: point out electronics, delicate finishes and moisture-sensitive materials to the technician, and do not throw out furniture without our guidance.
On the day: provide access and working electricity, keep people and pets out of work areas, and do not use sprays, foggers or DIY products beforehand.
After the service: let steamed surfaces dry fully before using them, use clean linens and keep mattress encasements zipped.

1. Does steam kill bed bug eggs?

Yes. When steam is applied slowly and directly, the heat kills eggs as well as nymphs and adults on the surfaces we treat. Eggs hidden deep inside walls or furniture may need an additional treatment such as heat.

2. Is steam and vacuum treatment safe for my family and pets?

It uses no pesticides. For safety, people and pets need to stay out of the work areas while we treat, and you should let steamed surfaces dry completely before using them again.

3. Will steam damage my mattress or furniture?

Professional steam is suitable for most mattresses, fabrics and furniture. Please point out electronics, delicate finishes and moisture-sensitive materials to the technician so we can protect them or use another method.

4. When can I use my bed and furniture again?

As soon as the steamed surfaces are completely dry. Use clean linens and keep untreated belongings off treated surfaces. Your technician will confirm when each area is ready.

5. Is one steam and vacuum treatment enough?

Steam and vacuum removes and kills the bed bugs and eggs it can reach, but it leaves no lasting residual protection. Depending on the infestation, we may recommend a follow-up visit or combining it with heat treatment or Aprehend®.

6. How do I prepare for the treatment?
